What you can expect from Crafted Scent, what we expect from you, and — the part that actually matters — who is responsible for the safety of what you make.
These terms govern your use of craftedscent.company — the website, the studio at /app, the free Introduction to Perfumery, and any recorded workshops. Using any of them means you accept what is written here. If you do not, please do not use them.
Crafted Scent is a tool for designing perfume, and a free introduction to how to do it. It is not a laboratory, a testing house, a regulator, or a supplier of materials. Nothing here is sold to you as a chemical.
You need an account to use the studio. One person, one account. Keep the password to yourself — anything done through your account is treated as done by you.
You must be 16 or older. Perfumery involves concentrated aromatic materials that require judgement and adult supervision, and we do not knowingly hold accounts for children.
You may close your account at any time, and ask us to delete what it holds. See the privacy page.
This is the most important section on the page, so it is not written in small print.
The studio checks your formula against IFRA Standards and shows you where a material sits against its limit. That check is offered in good faith and as a guide. It is not a certificate, not a safety assessment, and not a substitute for one.
If you sell or give away a fragrance, the legal responsibility for its safety is yours — including obtaining a Cosmetic Product Safety Report or the equivalent where your market requires it, and complying with the rules in force where you sell. Those rules differ by country and they change.
Material data — densities, doses, limits, suppliers — is compiled with care from published sources and from our own reading, and some of it is estimated and says so. Check anything that matters against the supplier's own specification and the current IFRA Standard before you rely on it.
Handle concentrated materials with the care they deserve: ventilation, eye protection, no skin contact at full strength, and away from children.
The Master Perfumer is artificial intelligence, not a person. It is good company and often right, and it can be confidently wrong. Treat what it says as a well-read opinion, not as advice you can act on without thinking — particularly anything about safety, dose or regulation.
Do not put anything into the chat that you would not want processed by a third party. What happens to those messages is described on the privacy page.
Fair use applies. Automated or bulk use of the chat, or attempts to resell access to it, will end an account.
Your formulas, your inventory and your notes belong to you. We claim no ownership over anything you compose here and we do not use your formulas to train anything.
You can take your work with you at any time: Back up everything in the Saved tab writes a file containing everything your account holds.
The application, the material library and its descriptions, the photographs, the material of the introduction and the recorded workshops are ours, and are licensed to you for your own use. You may not republish, resell or share them, and you may not use them to build a competing product.
A workshop is a licence for one person. Please do not pass the files around; if a colleague wants it, we would rather sell it to them cheaply than have it copied.
The names of fragrance materials, houses and perfumes belong to their owners and are used here for description and teaching, which is what they are for.
Subscriptions and workshops are sold through Paddle, which acts as the merchant of record. Paddle handles the payment and any sales tax or VAT, and its name is what appears on your statement. Its terms apply to the transaction itself.
The subscription is billed once a year and renews automatically until you cancel. You can cancel at any time and keep what you have paid for until the year runs out. Refunds are on the refunds page.
Prices may change. An announced change applies to your next renewal, never to a year you have already paid for, and we will tell you before it happens.
We will do our best to keep the studio running, correct, and current with IFRA amendments. We cannot promise it will never be unavailable, never contain an error, or that a feature will last forever. Where something material is withdrawn from a paid plan, we will say so in advance.
Your work is stored in two places — in your browser, and in your account when you are signed in. That is deliberately more than one place, but it is not a backup service. Take your own backup of anything you would be sorry to lose.
To the extent the law allows, our liability for any claim connected with Crafted Scent is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before it arose. Nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.
You can stop at any time. We may suspend or close an account that abuses the service, breaks these terms, or puts other people at risk — and where we reasonably can, we will tell you why and give you the chance to take your work with you first.
If these terms change in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and subscribers are told by email before it takes effect.
A person reads support@craftedscent.company and replies, usually within one working day.
